I started playing MahJong a few years ago with some new friends. They were experienced players who kindly taught me the basics. I want batshit crazy with an app, trying to become competent in a hurry. Now, we play monthly (at least) and follow it with happy hour.

Early on, I was on the search for a stylish MahJong set. I shopped Amazon, but didn’t always trust the vendors. I considered designing my own, but didn’t want the headache. I finally settled on a set from Where The Winds Blow, based out of Houston, TX.

I like my self-cobbled set. It has gold glitter tiles, gold dice, wooden dice, and a black canvas bag to carry it all. But the design nerd in me still longs for unique tile fronts that bring joy every day. So here I bring you six luxury MahJong sets, tiles and designs from manufacturers all over. I can point you to a cheap and usable set, but these are the ones I dream about when I imagine being rich.

Tiffany Luxury Mahjong Set

The single most gorgeous luxury MahJong set I’ve ever laid eyes on was from Tiffany. I recently saw the live version at a local store, but it doesn’t appear to be available online anymore.

Packaged in a Tiffany Blue leather case with well-styled tiles, wood racks, and chrome dice, it’s the creme de la creme of MahJong sets.

Clocking in at $15,000, it was well out of my price range. But if a generous benefactor decided to gift me one, I’d enjoy it for decades and remember them fondly.

$15,000

Prada Elite Mahjong

My second favorite luxury MahJong set comes from Prada. The case is made from Saffiano leather (whatever that means) and, from the product details, the tiles might be wrapped in leather too (but it doesn’t look like it).

Stylishly black with pretty tiles, this set has everything but the racks. How you’d coordinate your racks to this set is beyond me. Any ideas?

$7,800

Maztermind Unique Luxury Mahjong

I found this delightful set from Maztermind, a Vietnamese company, and love the neutral, almost monochromatic design. Made with wood, leather and iron details, it’s meticulously crafted from a group of artisans trying to make gaming beautiful.

Even if you don’t love this design, I encourage you to check out the link anyhow. It’s a wonderful example of how online selling should happen.

$749

Brunello Cucinelli

Though it doesn’t come with everything you need, this luxury MahJong set from Brunello Cucinelli is simply divine.

Made from walnut and whatever Krion is, this Italian set is neutral, monochromatic and stylish at once.

If you want it and you’re loaded, better be quick. It’s selling out and won’t be back.

$9,400

Ralph Lauren

Of course Ralph Lauren makes a gorgeous luxury MahJong set, right? This set comes with stylish black resin tiles, a leather case, racks, and everything else you need to play Mahjong.

There are no reviews for this luxury Mahjong set, however. Because if you have $10k to blow on a set, your personal assistant doesn’t bother to leave a review for you.

$9,995

The Mahjong Line

It would be impossible for me to talk luxury MahJong tiles/sets without mentioning the whimsical Mahjong Line. Two friends with some design skills started the business “with fun and fellowship in mind’.

Their collection includes mostly whimsical, colorful American Mahjong tiles along with accessories. Featured here is The Mountain Line with bears, antlers, fish and what appears to be aspen adorning resin tiles.

Tiles alone are in the $500 range, but these are almost cute enough to talk me over the edge.

$450

Affordable Luxury Mahjong

For normal people who don’t have thousands of dollars to drop on a stylish Mahjong set, I recommend this Basic Mahjong Set. It includes everything you need to get started. The design is basic, but pretty. I recommend:

  • A Canvas Bag. Boxes are clunky and heavy and require the tiles to line up perfectly. With a bag, you can drop all 144 tiles in at the end of the game.
  • Buying A Set. Even though I didn’t, a set is ideal for those on a budget. Just make sure it includes everything like racks, dice, tiles, and a case.
