Do you hate glitter as much as I do? Sure, it’s sparkly and pretty. It makes anything instantly festive. But it’s a big fucking mess. A teaspoon of glitter can ruin a house with shiny plastic filth for decades. It gets everywhere. Inside crevices you didn’t even know existed. Then, thirteen years later, someone wonders what kind of bachelor party you had in the living room after they find one more speck of that shit hiding on a windowsill like an apocalyptic cockroach.

If you want a glitter-free Christmas, you’re not alone. I spent the better part of a week searching for stylish holiday decor that wouldn’t (g)litter my house. (Seriously, people! “Litter” is right there in the word!)

Even when I searched for “no glitter ornaments” on Amazon, all I got were glittery results. As if Amazon’s algorithm thought, “Good heavens! That ‘no’ must be a mistake! I’ll just pretend I didn’t even see it. Nobody could possibly want ornaments without glitter!”

So I did the work. I like a stylish tree with my favorite ornaments paired with a color or style theme. I don’t like a tree smothered in Christmas ornaments so you can’t even see the tree of the tree. But a tree with only lights and sparse ornaments feels too bare.

As I look for tree photos that capture what I’m after, I see I need a whole other post on “stylish but not overdone Christmas trees”. I need the thing to be easy to tear down after the holidays are over. Those trees with hundreds of ornaments, bows, and tinsel would make me want to destroy the tree and everything on it by the end of the holiday.

I searched far and wide for ornaments that will give you all the Christmas without any of the glitter. You, too, can enjoy the holidays without a house that looks like toddler’s craft room for the next twelve years.

You’re welcome.

Wood Glitter-Free Christmas Ornaments

Perfect for a farmhouse or modern Scandinavian look, wood ornaments can fill out a tree and double as a fire hazard. What a bonus! For me, as someone who loves merging natural elements with a modern, minimalist style, wood works great. Even though I didn’t go that route.

Fabric Christmas Ornaments – No Glitter!

Fabric can be wrapped around a ball or sewn into a shape. Some styles can feel a bit too “country” for me, but I found some modern fabric options that might work.

Paper Christmas Ornaments Without Glitter

Though probably less durable than other styles of ornaments, paper can be an economical way to decorate a tree. Especially if you learn origami and can make ornaments yourself.

Ceramic Ornaments That Have Zero Glitter

I make bad potter myself, so I’m partial to ceramic ornaments. They can be fragile, expensive and heavy, however. Proceed with caution.

Glass Christmas Ornaments With No Glitter

Glass ornaments are classic, but breakable. Lightweight and minimal. I don’t have many glass ornaments myself, but these might make me change my tune.
